Plants

Fully mycoheterotrophic plants share only one particular feature—the obligation to obtain carbon from fungi. The plants that fall within this definition do not necessarily have to be evolutionarily related and therefore mycoheterotrophic plants consist of a wide variety of taxa. Although mycoheterotrophy is relatively rare in nature, multiple independent origins of the mycoheterotrophic mode of life have produced a remarkable array of mycoheterotrophic species in almost every major group of land plants.
